Quality Bookkeeping Cleanup

Quality Bookkeeping Cleanup when the first row is still open

You paid for a finished file once, and the first row is the reason you are reading this. A cleanup can come back marked finished while the bank row is still open. The later rows wait.

Why the other four rows wait

The order is the point. A holding account, a return, an equity line, and a closing date are all real work, and none of them can be trusted while a deposit on the statement has no home.

Someone can still hand you an invoice that says finished. Asking to fail the work is a fair way to buy. If the first row fails, you do not owe the rest of that invoice. That is a rule of this practice, not a slogan.

Paying the same vendor every week is a habit, not a proof. A payment that leaves on schedule still does not prove the deposit landed. The habit can run for years while that deposit stays loose.

A check that fails in October can still rewrite what that year reports. Waiting until the return is locked, and then discovering the bank row was open, is the expensive version of the same fact.

What we say on the call when the invoice is already out

We start with the row you think failed. If you are not sure, we start with the bank. The other rows stay in the stack, and we do not skip ahead to look busy.

A written difference between the books and the return is allowed only when the words exist. A shrug is not a written difference. If the words are missing, that row fails too, after the bank row is settled.

Owner amounts hiding in expenses fail on their own row. We do not fold that trouble into the bank test to make one conversation feel shorter. Each row has a pass or a fail you can say out loud.

You can read what fails the bank check before the call, and you can read what a pass lets you choose if the rows do close.

Pay, or do not pay

Paying the rest of a failed invoice is the outcome this site exists to prevent. Setting a tenth on books that did not pass would only schedule the same miss for next month. The tenth can wait until that row is actually closed in the file.

If you want the rows run on your file, send the statement date. If you want to stop after seeing the first row fail, stopping is a complete answer. We would rather stop a bad invoice on a Tuesday than explain it in April, when the year is harder to change and the same deposit is still loose.

Name the row if you know it. If you do not, say the invoice already went out.
